Call One, a Chicago-based full service telecommunications company, believes in their mission to provide outstanding service to clients and giving back to the community. With this philanthropic pillar in mind, Call One’s Executive Chairman, Ed Wynn, recently took part in a cross-country cycling adventure benefiting the fundraising efforts Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and the Chicago Charity Challenge.

Wynn began long distance cycling a few years ago, completing his first multi-100 mile event with his daughter Sarah. Ed and Sarah completed the ride to raise money for the then Children’s Memorial Hospital, now the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Sarah, who at the age of 9 overcame acute viral myocarditis, serves as inspiration for Wynn as he continues to ride for charities to bring awareness and hope to critically ill children and their families.

Wynn’s most recent feat included cycling across the U.S. from Oregon to Maine, over 3,700 miles with one goal: raise vital funds for one of Chicago’s best causes. Wynn did just that, raising $6,750, the highest total of all participants in Team Lurie Children’s.

“While the ride was tough, what helped me get through each of the 44 days was thinking about the even greater difficulties that Lurie patients and their families face every day,” Wynn said. “Knowing that my ride paled in comparison to their challenges, was—and is—truly inspiring.”

During the 44-day adventure, Wynn met numerous citizens who had never heard of Lurie’s or the Chicago Charity Challenge.

“We applaud Ed for his dedication to Lurie Children’s by cycling 3,700 miles across the entire U.S.,” says Grant Stirling, PhD, Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer of Lurie Children’s Foundation. “Proceeds from Ed’s fundraising efforts through his ride will help us continue to advance children’s health and provide exceptional care for more than 173,000 children each year.”

Wynn also helped raise $1,390 for the Chicago Charity Challenge, which motivates businesses and employees to give back to their community by aligning their business with local charities.
