Call One, a national business-focused telecommunications company, has donated
more than $30,000 to the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless in an effort to support individuals across the state of Illinois working to end chronic homelessness.
Call One believes in their mission to provide outstanding service to clients while also giving back to the community. With this philanthropic pillar in mind, the Call One Give Back Committee was born in 2008.
The Call One Give Back Committee is an employee-conceived, employee-run group who creates fundraising opportunities for a chosen charity each year. The committee presents opportunities for employees to devote their time and contribute monetarily to their specific organization, with Call One matching all employee generated funds.
The 2017 organization was the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH), which is the only nonprofit in Illinois dedicated to advocating for public policies that curb and can ultimately end homelessness.
Call One’s CEO, Chris Surdenik, has supported the committee from the start and has enjoyed watching it evolve.
“While we are proud to participate in all of our philanthropic endeavors, this year the Give Back Committee exceeded expectations and I truly appreciate the employee involvement,” stated Surdenik. “We believe no person should go without basic necessities and partnering with the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless has been extremely fulfilling for everyone at Call One.”
In addition to fundraisers for employees, Call One hosts a charity golf outing each July. Golfers are encouraged to “cheat for charity” by giving money to receive a better score, participate in the silent auction and have the chance to win great prizes through purchasing raffle tickets. The day is intended to create a fun atmosphere for everyone involved and the team from CCH joined right in.
“We applaud Call One for creating and encouraging such an outstanding effort. It’s been such a pleasure teaming up with them for the mutual goal of raising funds to help end homelessness” said Doug Schenkelberg, CCH Executive Director. “This donation will help support outreach programs, our law project and our advocacy campaigns”.
In total, the Call One Give Back Committee raised $30,393 for the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless in 2017 and will be working throughout 2018 to donate more than that amount, as CCH was once again voted the Call One Chosen Charity.
